Study in Finland
World-leading education quality, strong tech and design sectors, and a generous post-study work visa.
Why Finland?
Finland is globally recognised for its rigorous education system and strong research output in technology, engineering, and design. Aalto University, formed from the merger of three leading Helsinki-area institutions, is a leading tech, business, and design hub. The University of Helsinki is a comprehensive research institution ranked consistently in the global top 100. Tuition fees for non-EU students (introduced in 2017) remain relatively modest compared to English-speaking countries.
Cost of living
EUR 900–1,500/month in Helsinki; lower in Tampere, Oulu, or other cities.
Post-study work pathway
International graduates can apply for a 1-year job seeker residence permit after completing a degree in Finland. Those who secure skilled employment qualify for a long-term residence permit.
Admissions
A bachelor's degree, IELTS 6.0–6.5 (or TOEFL 79) for English-taught programs, and an application via each university's admissions portal. Many Finnish universities participate in a joint application system.
Scholarships
The Finnish Government Scholarship Pool provides awards for international postgraduate study. Individual universities offer merit-based grants. Tuition fee waivers are sometimes available for applicants who score highly in the admissions process.
