Letter of Recommendation Service

Most professors write generic LORs because they don't know what the program is looking for. We draft a specific, credible letter — they personalise and sign it.

Types of LOR

Different programs require different recommender profiles.

Academic LOR
From: Professor or thesis supervisor
Best for: All programs — especially PhD and research-focused Masters
Should reference specific coursework, project quality, or thesis work. Not just grade commentary.
Professional LOR
From: Direct manager or senior colleague
Best for: MBA, part-time Masters, work-experience-required programs
Should describe outcomes, responsibilities, and growth — not just job title and duration.
Counsellor / Mentor LOR
From: School counsellor, research mentor, or extracurricular supervisor
Best for: Undergraduate programs, community-focused universities
Less common, but accepted at some UK and US universities as a third recommender.

Strong LOR vs weak LOR

A strong LOR has
A specific anecdote — a project, paper, situation — that illustrates your claim
A comparative statement: 'Among the 200 students I've taught, she ranks in the top 5%'
Technical or subject-specific detail that proves the recommender actually knows your work
A direct statement recommending the student for this type of program
Contact information for the recommender — and a name that is verifiable
A weak LOR has
Generic praise with no examples ('a hard-working and dedicated student')
A summary of the student's grades already visible on the transcript
Copy-pasted text across multiple recommenders
Vague language about 'potential' without evidence
A recommender who barely knew the student

How our LOR service works

1
Identify your recommenders
We help you choose the right two or three recommenders based on the programs you're applying to — academic vs. professional balance.
2
Briefing document
We prepare a briefing document for each recommender: what to highlight, what anecdotes to reference, what the program is looking for.
3
Draft the LOR
We write a draft in the recommender's voice. It's specific to your profile, references real events, and aligns with what the program values.
4
Recommender review
The recommender reviews the draft, adds their personal voice, and signs. This step ensures authenticity — the LOR reflects their genuine assessment.
5
Submission
Most universities accept LORs via email or application portal. We guide your recommender on the submission process.
Is it ethical for a consultant to write the LOR?
Yes — with one condition: the recommender must read, personalise, and sign the final version. Our role is to draft a starting point that structures their likely assessment of you. We do not fabricate claims or invent experiences. The recommender is always the author of record, and the final letter must reflect their genuine assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Is it ethical for a consultant to write the LOR?
Yes — with one condition: the recommender must read, personalise, and sign the final version. Our role is to draft a starting point that captures their likely assessment of you. The recommender is always the author of record.
How many LORs do I need?
Two is standard for most Masters and PhD programs. Three is common for US universities. UG programs sometimes ask for one counsellor recommendation. We'll confirm the requirement for each program on your list.
What if my professor doesn't know me well?
This is common. We write a briefing document reminding the professor of your coursework, project, or thesis. The draft then references specifics, which jogs their memory and gives them a starting point.
Can a manager or employer write an LOR for a Masters program?
Yes — especially for MBA and professional Masters programs. Academic LORs are preferred for research programs, but a strong professional LOR can complement or sometimes replace a weaker academic one.
